Felix Antigua hit consistently at Augusta, saw four seasons

Augusta catcher Felix Antigua came to bat in the first, hoping to give his Pirates a good start. With two on base, he did just that, knocking a single to put Augusta up 2-0 in that May 1990 contest, according to The Sumter Item.

Antigua ultimately went 1 for 4, but he was hitting well. By early July, he was hitting .286, and was noted by The Pittsburgh Press as hitting for Augusta with consistency.

Antigua, though, ultimately couldn't keep up that consistency. Moved up to high-A Salem later that year, Antigua struggled. The next year, Antigua got into just three games, marking the extent of his career.

Antigua's career began in 1988, signed by the Pirates as an undrafted free agent out of his native Dominican Republic.

With the Pirates, Antigua started in the rookie Gulf Coast League and at rookie Princeton. Between them, Antigua hit .313 in 33 games. He also hit two home runs.

For 1989, Antigua returned to Princeton, but he also made single-A Augusta. At Augusta, he hit .256 in 50 games.

Antigua then played 1990 between Augusta and Salem. He hit Salem for 30 games, but ended up hitting just .194 there. Earlier, at Augusta, Antigua hit .286.

Antigua also went 3 for 4 in an early July contest, knocking in two and scoring twice. In a June game, he went 2 for 4, with one RBI and one run scored.

His 1991 campaign, his fourth in pro ball, was brief. Moved up to AA Carolina, Antigua saw just three games. He went 1 for 11. They were the last at bats of his professional career.
